Acregate Lane lose on a day of Postponements

Acregate Lane LC lost to Devonshire Arms in the LFA Trophy

Winters icy hand came back to haunt us today and as a result no less than 42 games were postponed. This is just what we didn’t need and it adds more pressure on fixtures boss Jim Bryson and club officials to ensure that we can get through the season.

Jim will need all the help and co-operation that he can get and we are relying on our clubs to work with him in these exceptional times. This is without doubt the worst season for postponements in the League’s history.... and we are not out of January yet.

And to make matters worse, Acregate Lane LC were beaten 3-2 in Blackpool by Devonshire Arms FC in the quarter finals of the LFA Sunday Trophy. Karl McLeod fired Acregate into the lead after only five minutes but Devonshire equalised just before half time before taking the lead early in the second half.

Richard Allen’s free kick from 25 yards levelled matters only for Devonshire Arms to bag the winner with ten minutes to go. Acregate Lane secretary Alex Ross was disappointed but he had no complaints about the result and vowed that Acregate would go one better next season.

This means that the LFA Sunday Trophy final will be a Preston v Blackpool affair with Devonshire Arms playing Quilligans in one semi-final and AFC Lostock Hall meeting New Farington House in the other all LEP League semi.

Gregson Lane had an impressive 6-3 away win at East Lancs Utd in their division 4 clash with Cartwright, Fowler and Ward on target for East Lancs but a Brad Cunliffe hat trick plus goals from Sergeant, Young and Cross ensured the points went to Gregson Lane.

Warton Typhoons won their first league game of the season beating Hoole Utd 3-2 at Warton thanks to goals from Will Barclay (2) and Dan Pendlebury with Davies and Holden replying for Hoole.

Referees

Referee fitness training

Training will be held from 6.30-7.30pm every Monday evening at Preston Sports Arena.

Our weekly fitness sessions with the excellent facilities on offer at the Arena and the support group atmosphere is something very positive which the Society offers.

Organiser Paul Marsden said, "I would particularly appeal to any members who perhaps do not currently attend Society meetings for whatever reason to give the fitness sessions a go as I assure you that you will find it a very good way of getting involved, and it will benefit your refereeing.

If you are interested in coming down either next week or in the future, please contact Paul Marsden via e-mail .

Referees Wanted

Referees are needed to ensure that games in the local leagues have a qualified official.

Is this something that would interest you? - if so we can help you get started and we will support you through the Referees Society training programme.

Referees come in all shapes and sizes, young and old, male and female and if you love the beautiful game we can find a place for you. Ex-players are particularly welcome.

If you are interested and would like more information, please give Jim Bryson a call on 01772 700997.
